Some embryological facts appear to direct us to the ancestry of the higher types of animals from the lower types. The embryo in its expansion appears to repeat the various phases through which the species has passed. So the human embryo at one point of its expansion looks like a fish; at another point, like a dog; and for a long time it is not possible to differentiate the human embryo from that of the greater apes. These curious facts, the New York Translation Services say, illustrate a link between the various animal forms which the embryo in its various phases imitates.
